Discovery Flights
Thinking about becoming a pilot? Want to check an item off your bucket list? Always dreamed of seeing Montgomery County from the sky? Then come and take a Discovery Flight with WIFA!
Discovery Flights offer an introduction into what it’s like to fly a plane. At Washington International Flight Academy, we pair you with an FAA-certified flight instructor for 30 minutes of ground instruction, followed by 30 minutes of flight time, where you get to take control of the aircraft.
Here’s what you should know before taking to the sky:

Discovery flights are introductory courses into flying.

In some cases, weather or maintenance issues may prevent your flight from happening as scheduled. Should this occur, WIFA staff will contact you as soon as possible to reschedule your flight. No additional fees will apply for rescheduling.

If you’re unable to keep your Discovery Flight appointment, please give WIFA at least 24-hours in advance notice, so that we may free up our pilot and aircraft. Please be sure to have confirmation that we received your message. No shows and late cancellations will result in a $50 rebooking fee.

Note that we do not allow same-day nor the next day bookings. Weekends tend to fill up several weeks in advance.

Our current schedule for discovery flights is 7 days a week from 10 AM to 3 PM.

If you decide to continue learning to fly, you may use credit from the ground instruction towards your private pilot license.

Discovery Flights may be purchased directly from WIFA for full price or through Groupon for a discounted rate.

Discovery flights may be purchased in twos for a dual discovery flight experience. With two discovery flight vouchers you may add another person on board to experience another 30 minutes of flight time; Each person will be granted 30 minutes of flight time. An extra passenger fee is not required with two discovery flight vouchers.

If purchasing through Groupon, please have your voucher handy prior to calling as we will ask for your redemption code (the 7 to 9 digit code underneath the barcode) when booking your flight.
